Sebaceous hyperplasia
Name: Pam Nemenz
Question:
I was diagnosed with sebaceous hyperplasia about 4 years ago around the same time I started menopause, maybe a little before. I always have had oily skin but never had acne or breakouts of any kind until I was around 46 years old. Started getting some breakouts. My skin was always very clear and youthful looking regardless of the oily skin. I started using Proactiv and have been on it since. It seemed to work well until sebaceous hyperplasia was diagnosed. Could the use of this product for so many years have caused this skin disorder? Could menopause? Is ther anything I can do about it? My dermatologist said it’s because I had oily skin and am getting older, and that it runs in families. Not much can be done about it and it will get worse!! I do not know anyone in my family that had or has this. Having good skin my whole life and ending up with this at a life changing time in a woman’s life (menopause) has caused more anxiety on top of other menopausal symptoms.
thank you..
Dear Pam,
The acne on your skin along with sebaceous hyperplasia is due to your hormones have changed with menopause. To treat your acne you should begin to use Clearogen all over your skin. To treat the sebaceous hyperplasia you should use Tazarac 0.1% ointment to the individual lesions as a spot treatment. Please keep us updated on your progress.
