How to Cover Acne Scars

Prevention is the ideal way to eliminate the appearance of acne scars -- using the right acne products to prevent severe breakouts in the first place. Since many people never find a solution to their acne, cystic acne results and leaves scars behind. Once acne breakouts are a thing of the past, covering the scars with makeup may be the only way to create the illusion of a smooth, flawless complexion. To create a flawless makeup, follow these steps:

  1. Always start with a clean, moisturized face to help makeup go on smoothly.
  2. Apply a makeup primer with silicone to even out skin’s texture.
  3. Select a concealer that is as close to your natural skin tone as possible. If an exact match isn’t available, it is better to go a shade lighter than to go darker.
  4. Don’t over-apply the concealer. All you need is a light layer to cover the scar and prevent it from acting as a highlight instead.
  5. Concealer may be applied with a brush or sponge applicator, but you can probably get better control by using your fingers.
  6. Use light tapping motions to get the concealer on in a light, even layer.
  7. You can either brush on your foundation over the concealer, or apply the foundation first. Creamy foundation that is applied with your fingers or a sponge can cause the concealer to be wiped away.
  8. If the foundation you use is a mineral or other powder-based foundation, it will help to set the concealer in place. Otherwise, use a brush and light face powder over the concealer and foundation once you have it looking the way you want it.

Once you have finished applying the makeup, the difference in your appearance should be similar to professional before and after acne pictures shown in advertisements and on TV. To learn more about the best acne products for preventing acne breakouts and scars, call Clearogen at 877-30-CLEAR.
